Newcastle Transfer News: Magpies Will Sign Loic Remy Within 48 Hours?

Metro. And the North East club's new director of football Joe Kinnear revealed a deal for Aston Villa forward Darren Bent is also close to being struck. When asked about the potentiality if signing Remy, who the Magpies made a failed attempt to sign in the January window, Kinnear said:

"Yeah I think very much, so I would like to think we are very, very close to agreeing that. "I would think maybe Monday or Tuesday we will be a position to say yea or nay, but I am very happy about how that deal is going at the moment."
The former Wimbledon boss also revealed the club are closing in on Bent, though they are likely to face stiff competition from newly-taken over Fulham, who have cash to spend this summer. Kinnear admitted talks are on-going regarding the former Tottenham marksman, who appears to be surplus to requirement on Villa Park ahead of the new season.
"We were with Darren€™s agent for two or three hours, we thrashed out a deal. €˜We are still in negotiations with Aston Villa so there is a really strong possibility there."
Newcastle's hopes of signing Bent appeared to be on the rocks last week after it was revealed the Magpies were only willing to pay £2 million for the 29-year-old, who was left feeling unimpressed with Kinnear and the club's offer. But it seems to have been revived now and Newcastle hope both he and Remy join the incoming Bafetimbi Gomis in the next few days, with Gomis set to join for £8 million from French side Lyon.
