Newcastle Transfers: 5 Cheaper Alternatives To Loic Remy

5. Shane Long

Newcastle are set to revive their interest in Shane Long this month, according to the latest reports. Manager Alan Pardew has a long-standing interest in the Republic of Ireland international, dating back a couple of years ago, but a move failed to come to fruition. Now, with Long stalling over a new contract at West Brom, the attacker is back on Pardew's radar as the Magpies chief looks to add firepower to his squad. Long only has six months remaining on his current deal at the Hawthorns though the Baggies are still playing hardball, holding out for around £6.5 million. Newcastle may be able to negotiate a lower fee, given the forward's contractual situation, though that value still makes the Albion man considerably cheaper than Remy. Long has scored three Premier League goals this season and 22 in 85 appearances for West Brom since signing from Reading in 2012.
