Newcastle Transfers: 5 January Signings That Could Push For Europe

Newcastle United are heading into the Christmas break in high spirits. Boss Alan Pardew was voted Manager of the Month for November after four successive wins, which took in victories over Chelsea and Tottenham, while the Magpies picked up an all-too-rare win at Old Trafford earlier this month, defeating Manchester United 1-0. That has left the north east side sixth in the Premier League and with a real opportunity to push on in the New Year for a place in Europe. As if that wasn't enough, a report published today found that Newcastle are the second most profitable club in the topflight, just behind Arsenal, and have been in profit for the last few seasons. The statistics show that oft-maligned Magpies owner Mike Ashley has got a good grasp of Newcastle's expenses - and now is the time to start spending some of those big profits that are coming into the club. Newcastle endured a fairly dire transfer window over the summer, bringing in just Loic Remy on loan from relegated QPR. There can be no excuses for inactivity in January when the window re-opens. With money to spend and a chance to finish in the top five, here, we take a look at 5 January Signings That Could Push For Europe.
