Newcastle Transfers: Neil Warnock Confirms Signing Imminent

For some reason, the former QPR manager has decided to leak the news of a tenth summer signing.

One of the most obvious lessons from Newcastle's goalless draw against Aston Villa was that Newcastle probably need something more up front. There is no question that Riviere has his value - and it will probably come when he is paired with someone else to take advantage of his good hold-up play - but he is not the experienced player needed. So it's good news that it looks like Newcastle might be about to announce their tenth signing of the summer - even if the source of that announcement is a bit odd. Speaking before the game at Villa Park, Neil Warnock told fellow self-promotionalist Robbie Savage and Darren Fletcher on BT Sport that Newcastle are going to make their next signing tomorrow.

Warnock, who is apparently looking to apply for the Huddersfield job after last being at Leeds, claimed he had been informed of an impending new signing by Alan Pardew.

As everyone else seems to be announcing, with the lack of striking bite, Newcastle should be in the market for a new striker. Which is probably why tomorrow will see the announcement of a new goalkeeper or something.

Loic Remy remains a name heavily linked with the club, despite the number of sources claiming he's happy at QPR and wouldn't be interested in a move back to the North East, but then Remy himself also once said he would be happy to sign for Newcastle before QPR offered him more money. Sorry, more footballing reasons.

So, who do you want Newcastle's mysterious tenth summer signing to be? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
