Newcastle United Transfer News: Debuchy Move Edges Closer?

Reports have reignited the ongoing saga regarding the possible transfer of the French full-back to St. James' Park.

Today€™s reports have reignited the ongoing saga regarding the possible transfer of French international right-back, Mathieu Debuchy to Newcastle United. Newcastle€™s interest in Debuchy was well documented before this summer€™s European Championships so his strong showing, particularly against England, has done Newcastle no favours, with potential new suitors Inter Milan now circling. News today suggests that Newcastle are looking to push through a deal for the cultured full back ASAP after their initial bid, believed to be in the region of £5m was rejected by current club Lille. Looking to build on an astounding 2011/12 campaign, Alan Pardew€™s Newcastle are again looking to use their ever-impressive scouting system, led by Graham Carr, to land themselves another bargain from French football, following the moves of Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa to Tyneside. In Cabaye Newcastle may just hold the key to successfully completing the Debuchy transfer. Long-term team mates at Lille, Debuchy has so far been a one-club man. However, after an expectation-defying season in the north-east, Cabaye may just be the one to convince Debuchy to finally up sticks and move across The Channel. With Danny Simpson hesitant in signing a new deal, Ryan Taylor struggling with defensive duties and the right-footed full back Davide Santon seemingly preferring the left, the time seems right for Pardew to push for an upgrade, especially now, after such a good season. It seems like he has his man, all he needs to do now is hurry up. News of Inter€™s interest will not be welcome news, though with nothing concrete confirmed it could just be Debuchy€™s agent hurrying Newcastle along. Though with rumours of Inter€™s Maicon potentially moving to Chelsea, who have just released Bosingwa, they may just be in the market for a right-back so it might not be in The Magpies interest to hold out for too long.
