Newcastle United take on former French footballing giants and now second division side AS Monaco in the second of the Toon’s pre-season friendly program this evening. Kick-off time is at 6pm (UK time) and 7pm (local time) and the match is being televised live by ESPN.

The match is taking place at the neutral venue of The Hacker-Pschorr Sports Park, the home ground of regional league side TSV Landsberg.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew confirmed before the game that he would field an experienced eleven against Monaco after he oped to play fringe players and youngsters in Friday’s defeat to Chemnitz. The likes of captain Fabricio Coloccini, Papiss Cisse and Cheick Tiote weren’t used in that game and are expected to come in today and there will be probably starts for Davide Santon, Danny Simpson, Demba Ba and Jonas Gutierrez – who were substitutes on Friday.

Long term absentee Steven Taylor might get a run out today which would be his first action since last November when he was injured in the home defeat to Chelsea. Sylvain Marveaux and Shane Ferguson are also believed to have traveled to France but have so far not been seen.

Newcastle’s Euro 2012 players Yohan Cabaye, Hatem Ben Arfa and Tim Krul haven’t yet linked up with the Newcastle squad as they have been given a little more time off from their tournament excursions. Forwards Nile Ranger and Xisco didn’t travel as they are not in Alan Pardew’s plans for the coming season.
