Newcastle Urged To Sign "A Couple More Faces" By Senior Player

Tim Krul believes the Magpies must still look to strengthen further this summer.

Tim Krul has urged Newcastle United to sign "a couple more faces" before the transfer window shuts at the end of August in order to "strengthen the competition for places" at the club. The Magpies have recruited three players so far this summer - Georginio Wijnaldum from PSV Eindhoven, as well as Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba from Anderlecht - but their Dutch goalkeeper still thinks the club needs to add more. Newcastle have been linked with more than 120 players so far this summer and it seems the feeling within the squad is that further recruits are still necessary.

Speaking to NUFCTV (paywall), Krul said after Newcastle's 1-0 home loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach in their final pre-season friendly on Saturday:
"I like to look after the new boys anyway. I know it is difficult for them with a new country, new club, new people. "He (Mitrovic) looks like a nice guy, all of them - Gini (Wijnaldum) obviously, Chancel as well. (They're) good quality players. "So I'm pleased we have signed them and obviously it would be nice to get a couple more faces to strengthen the competition in places. "I think if we start finishing the chances off we can do really well, but obviously you can't be too optimistic because you never know in the Premier League. "It's been a good pre-season so far."
Will Newcastle make further additions as Tim Krul desires? Only time will tell... For all the latest NUFC News, Views and Transfers make sure to follow WhatCulture.com/NUFC on Twitter and Facebook.
