Newcastle's 2015/16 Away Kit Confirmed

Diamonds are a Mag's best friend.

In amongst their well-publicised attempts to sign more players and stop losing to teams like York City, Newcastle have officially unveiled their Away kit for the coming season. It should come as absolutely no surprise that the kit - which introduces the Magpies' diamond game for the first time - is the same design as was released all the way back in May by some unscrupulous person on holiday, where it seems to have been on sale for months. It actually looks significantly lighter than those dark grey designs, with a more silver tone to match the blue shoulder trim and shorts. The shirt itself has some distinctly retro flavours about it: the diamond motif was once big business for kit makers - aside from the gloriously hideous Chelsea away kit from the very early 90s - and the fading pattern makes it look like a muted version of a 'keeper top Dimitri Kharine would have been proud of. For revisionists and nostalgics, by the way, the colour is very much reminiscent of the beautiful Umbro kits from the 80s that nobody ever acknowledges make Adidas' Entertainers shirts look like tramps' uniforms. The socks are a simpler design (aside from the feet that appear to have some sort of futuristic sock technology to make them 90% more wearable or something), and actually look more like the simpler Adidas socks, rather than Puma's, thanks to the lack of go-faster calf patterns.
Frankly, if they were to wear this one significantly less times than the newly dubbed "PSG kit" with the fetching sash, that wouldn't be the worst outcome for the season. At least the fact that there are quite a few teams who play in white at home makes that a distinct possibility. Though it could have been significantly worse, looking at the Puma base kits that are available in the same design...
As is the usual fashion, the kit release also came with some tastefully lit boudoir style photos, showing off what it will look like when the Premier League ratifies games played in almost complete darkness.
Right, now that's out of the way, let's all concentrate on which new names will be added to the back, eh? What do you think of the new kit? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread. There's probably a prize on Twitter for the most creative whinge about it too. For all the latest NUFC News, Views and Transfers make sure to follow WhatCulture.com/NUFC on Twitter and Facebook.
