NUFC Transfer News: Magpies And Liverpool Warned Off Georginio Wijnaldum

Memphis Depay's move to Man United could scupper any deal.

Newcastle United and Liverpool have been warned off pursuing a deal for Georginio Wijnaldum this summer after Memphis Depay agreed to leave PSV Eindhoven for Manchester United. Midfielder Wijnaldum has already been capped 18 times by Holland, scoring twice, and is regarded as one of the most-promising players in Europe due to the fact he has a habit of finding the back of the net. Both Newcastle and Liverpool have been keeping tabs on the 24-year-old, but PSV's sporting director has claimed the Dutch club would be unlikely to countenance a deal for another one of their star players to leave following Depay's £25 million move to Man United.
Marcel Brands, the sporting director of the Eredivisie champions, told Sky Sports:
"We have not had any contact with Liverpool (or anyone else) about Wijnaldum. "We hope to keep the rest of the team together now because we are playing in the Champions League next season. I hope we don't have to sell any other players."
Wijnaldum has already won three trophies with PSV Eindhoven and has made 152 appearances, scoring an impressive 56 times from midfield, since moving there from Feyenoord in 2011. The midfielder also netted for Holland during the 3-0 third-place play-off win over Brazil at last year's World Cup.
