Premier League 2012/13: 5 Biggest Talking Points So Far

4. Will Chelsea Ever Find Equilibrium?

As is now routine for the London club, Chelsea€™s season has been thrown off the rails at the whim of their benefactor, Roman Abramovic, who has shown no signs of mellowing after nearly ten years as the puppet master at Stamford Bridge. Having sacked Roberto Di Matteo, the only manager so far to bring the Russian the European Cup, Abramovic has handed over the reigns (for the time being) to Rafa Benitez, a hugely unpopular choice having developed into a hate-figure during his time at Liverpool when he locked horns with Jose Mourinho. The past few months have been rocky to say the least, with the team having been knocked out of the Champions League at the first hurdle, suffered from indifferent form in the league, whilst playing in front of a blatantly dissatisfied crowd who have staunchly refused to get behind Benitez. After an auspicious start to their season, having purchased the highly-gifted talents of Eden Hazard and Oscar, Chelsea have suffered from inconsistency in spite of their evident ability, stemming from key players Mata, Ramires, and the evergreen Frank Lampard. With the title now well out of reach, Chelsea must now put all of their efforts into the Europa League and the F.A. Cup, two honours which they are still very much in with a shout for after clawing back a two goal deficit against Manchester United on Sunday. If they were to secure both trophies, Abramovic€™s mood may be quelled for a time, but, inevitably, it won€™t be long before the next story rears its head.
