Premier League: 5 Worst Football January Signings

4. Jean-Alain Boumsong

The relatively unknown centre-half arrived at Newcastle United for £8m in 2005 signing a five and a half year contract, having signed as a free agent for Rangers only six months earlier, at which point Newcastle clearly hadn't been interested in his signature. Boumsong made an average/good start to his Newcastle career, forming a solid partnership with Titus Bramble, though his debut at Yeading in the FA Cup was one to remember, with the ball hitting him square in the back as he waited for it to drop over his shoulder. His second season on the other hand could only be classed as disastrous, as the Frenchman was blamed for ridiculous mistakes time and again, much like partner in crime Bramble. Jean was clearly out of his depth in the Premier League, and after 46 appearances was shipped out to Juventus in the Italian 2nd division. £3.3m was all Newcastle received for his services (source BBC Sport), but then it may of cost more results wise if the club had kept him. It was hardly a good deal on any level for Newcastle: eyebrows were raised in the initial Rangers/Newcastle transfer, with the deal being part of the Stevens inquiry. http://youtu.be/WXourgziu0o Source: BBCSport

I'm a long suffering Newcastle United supporter. MMA fan who is born and bred Newcastle. I write for a few sites , including my own. Quite possibly spends a little too much time on the Playstation and generally being productive.
