Ravel Morrison, one of the brightest lights of Manchester United’s youth and reserve set up is set for talks with West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce about the possibility of joining his team on a permanent basis. No transfer fee is yet being mentioned, but Morrison is reportedly already at the Boleyn Ground speaking to the former Bolton and Newcastle United manager ahead of any deal being brokered – and that figure is likely to be slightly above the £1m or so which Manchester United turned down from Alan Pardew’s North East side.

Morrison has had his problems, with a well-publicised witness intimidation charge and general questions about his attitude and application, but there is no doubt that he has the potential to be a great player. Whether Sam Allardyce can bring that out of him at West Ham remains to be seen – but the drop down to Championship level might be exactly what Morrison needs, provided he is going to get game time, to make the transition to first team football a successful one.

Fans may well now wonder whether this means that Allardyce is willing to let one of his current crop of strikers leave before tonight’s 11pm deadline, with a lot of interest said to be surrounding Carlton Cole.
