Real Madrid are edging closer to completing the signing of David De Gea from Manchester United according to Spanish newspaper Marca. Los Blancos are reportedly close to agreeing an initial fee of £18 million for the goalkeeper with an additional £3.5 million due to be paid based on performances and achievements. The report claims De Gea has made up his mind after taking time off to assess his options. There's little doubting that he has made himself more than at home in Manchester but the chance to return to his home city of Madrid looks like it was too good to turn down. If he does leave like Marca say he will, the 24-year-old will become Rafael Benitez's first signing of his reign at The Bernabeu. The deal is expected to be announced when the transfer window officially opens in July. United will then have a huge whole to fill and have already been linked with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur's Hugo Lloris and Chelsea's Petr Cech. However, it wouldn't be a surprise to see them give current number two Victor Valdes a stint between the sticks after the former Barcelona man signed mid way though last season. In the couple of appearances the Spaniard made at the backend of last season he looked more than a little bit shaky despite pulling off a number of eye catching saves against Hull City on the final day.
