Rafa Benitez wants William Carvalho if Asier Illarramendi decides to leave this summer.

Real Madrid will launch a bid for Manchester United and Arsenal target William Carvalho, according to the Daily Mail.

Rafa Benitez want's the Sporting Lisbon starlet to replace Asier Illarramendi if he decides to leave the Santiago Bernabeu for Liverpool this summer.

Former Madrid anchorman Sami Khedira has already left this summer, moving to Juventus on a free transfer and Benitez will be keen to replace the talented German.

Real Madrid are interested in signing the 23-year-old but are not willing to meet the Sporting man's £32million release clause.

Arsene Wenger was reported to have made a huge bid for the player a month ago, while Manchester United were also keen to secure the players signature.

Carvalho narrowly missed out on a U21 European Championships winner medal as Portugal were beaten by Sweden on penalties in the final but the midfielder did pick up the 'best player of the tournament award'.

During the tournament the Sporting Lisbon midfielder was watched by a host of top sides during the tournament and they can€™t of not been impressed.

The defensive midfielder who has been likened to Manchester City€™s Yaya Toure provides cover for the back four as well as effortless control and composure. He has played more passes than anyone else during the tournament in the Czech Republic.
