This could be the most competitive, most exciting and best attended season ever in Scotland's top league. Ridiculous? Well, hear me out first:

So, Sevco 5088 will not not play Scottish Premier League football a few weeks from now, despite the warnings of dire consequences from SFA and SPL mandarins. It was said that Sky and ESPN would walk away from a league without the the Glasgow giant and clubs apparently dependent on the legions of Old Firm fans visiting their grounds up to four times a year would fold hand over fist. With no real competitor, Celtic would win the league by December and the whole structure would crumble under the weight of meaningless games and pitiful crowds. Such was the hyperbole, I was almost waiting for it to be said that the Mayans had Scottish Football in mind when the calender they created predicted then end of the world in 2012. But, wait a minute, why should the outlook be so dreech. This could be the most competitive, most exciting and best attended season ever in Scotland's top league. Ridiculous? Well, hear me out first:

1. Celtic Win The Title... But Who For Champions and Europa Leagues?

In a country used to there only being two teams who can win the league and contest the Champions League, what happens when you have only one team able to win the league and the 'rest'. You get a mad competitive scramble to make club history and to become local footballing legends. Expect blood sweat and tears from Dingwall to Edinburgh. Aberdeen to Motherwell to get a hold of this once in a generation opportunity to play at Europes most famous stadiums in UEFAs premier club competition. Geez, maybe one or two clubs might so carried away with the excitement the league itself might leave Glasgow's East End.
