Sir Bobby Robson's 10 Greatest Moments At Newcastle

Tactical genius, local icon, raconteur extraordinaire...

Today, Thursday July 31st, marks exactly six years since football stopped still for a moment and took in the news that one of the game's most liked, loved and respected figures, had passed away. Sir Robert William Robson, or Bobby to the rest of the world, who had been battling cancer for more than 17 years, finally lost his fight at the age of 76. Whilst he'd become a household name as the man who took England to a World Cup semi-final in 1990 - Lineker's goals, Waddle's barnet, Gazza's tears, he hand a hand in it all - the coal miner's son from County Durham had earned the admiration of his peers with stints at Ipswich, Porto, PSV Eindhoven, and Barcelona. Despite all the international recognition though, his heart remained firmly in his beloved North East, and in 1999 he was finally given the chance to manage Newcastle United, the club he had supported as a boy. The five years that followed were a tale of so many nearly moments. The passion and enthusiasm that had been ground out by Dalglish and Guillit returned to the terraces and, just like Keegan before him, Newcastle returned to being a force in the Premier League and beyond. There was no silverware to mark his stint, we're used to that up here, but Sir Bobby left us with some incredible memories nonetheless. Here's 10 of the best.
