Southampton Transfers: 10 Players To Buy This Summer

It has been an excellent second season back in the Premier League for the ambitious Southampton, albeit not one without upheaval as chairman Nicola Cortese was unceremoniously booted out. From the early heights of third place, Saints have now settled in a comfortable top half slot but mostly out of contention for Europe. Out of both cups and with little to play for but whether they or Newcastle finish 8th and 9th, it's time for Saints to start planning to build on this year's success next season. Virtually all of the Southampton transfer coverage both during the winter transfer window and looking forward to the summer (inclyding on this very site) has been about the players the Saints are desperate to keep. The club is ambitious, though, and want to keep moving forward. It will be next to impossible for Southampton to hold on to England international teenage left back Luke Shaw, the latest world class product of the club's Academy. Like Walcott, Bale or Oxlade-Chamberlain before him, a big money move to a top team is likely in Shaw's future and Saints can benefit from stimulating a bidding war between interested parties Man United and Chelsea and using the large transfer income both to keep hold of crucial midfield talent and strengthen the team around them. With Shaw's transfer fee and the departure of trouble making forward Dani Osvaldo, currently on loan at Juventus with an option to buy permanently, Southampton could be raking in upwards of £30 million and possibly up to £40 million this summer. So how should that money be spent? Here are ten potential transfer targets for the South coast club this summer.
