Spurs 0-5 Liverpool: Reds Run Riot At Ten-Man Tottenham

Liverpool reclaimed second place in the Premier League table with a big away win over Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.

Luis Suarez scored twice for the Reds with Jordan Henderson, Jon Flanagan and Raheem Sterling on target. Tottenham finished with ten as Paulinho was sent off.

Sterling threatened twice for Liverpool after a unsettled opening from Spurs. Suarez then pounced on poor defending from Spurs skipper Michael Dawson and found the bottom corner on 18 minutes.

Philippe Coutinho then hit the bar between two other Suarez efforts that Hugo Lloris somehow dealt with. Tottenham meanwhile made a change with Lewis Holtby replacing midfield anchor Sandro.

The sub steered wide when Roberto Soldado teed him up as Hotspur began to pose the visitors more problems. Try as they might, however, the hosts could not keep the Reds out and their high line was culpable.

Lloris saved from Henderson and Suarez, but the midfielder snapped up the second rebound to make it 2-0 five minutes before half time. That makeshift home defence was shaky to say the least.

Soldado then though he'd pulled one back for Spurs when he went for a 50-50 ball with Simon Mignolet after Mamadou Sakho's poor back-pass, but referee Jon Moss ruled it out. Tottenham were booed off at the break.

Andre Villas-Boas made another change at half time withdrawing the struggling Kyle Naughton for young Zeki Fryers at left back. Soldado blazed another opening over. Sakho then headed against the post at close range for Liverpool after good work from Sterling.

Tottenham's dismal day continued midway through the second half when Paulinho saw red for catching Suarez in the chest with a high boot. Young Reds fullback Flanagan scored his first senior goal 15 minutes from time when he thumped in Henderson's cross.

Suarez added a fourth when he chipped Lloris after being fed by Luis Alberto, and then teed up Sterling for a fifth goal that capped a handsome away win. AVB must go back to the drawing board amid growing discontent for Spurs fans. Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool are now just two points off the top.
