Spurs Dream XI For The Premier League Opener

Lilywhites travel to the Boleyn Ground on Saturday August the 16th for Manuel Pochettino's league debut as Spurs boss.

The summer transfer window is always exciting - or at least extremely eventful - for fans of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. Last summer epitomised that notion, as Gareth Bale left for Real Madrid in a world record transfer deal of around £85 million and was "replaced" by an influx of no less than seven new players. This summer, it's all been quiet on the transfer front, with no new players incoming as of yet. A few players have left the club, however, with Jake Livermore joining Hull City permanently, after having been on loan at the KC Stadium last season, for around £7 million and Heurelho Gomes leaving for free to sign for Watford. A number of youngsters have also been released. That said, there have been wholesale changes on the coaching staff, with Mauricio Pochettino replacing Tim Sherwood, having joined from Southampton, and bringing his supporting staff with him. As a result, player purchases are expected once Pochettino has established where changes need to made in the Spurs team - with left backs, centre backs and strikers apparently being targeted at the moment. On that note, how would Spurs fans like to see Pochettino's first team in the Premier League line up? When the Lilywhites travel to the Boleyn Ground on Saturday August the 16th, who would they like to see on the pitch? That's what we'll be taking a look at in this article. Here is the dream Tottenham Hotspur XI for the Premier League opener (in a 4-2-3-1 formation)...

11. Hugo Lloris (Goalkeeper)

Hugo Lloris is arguably Tottenham's best player. The French international goalkeeper and national team captain joined the White Hart Lane club in 2012, from Lyon in an £8 million deal, and he has been their most consistent performer ever since. After Spurs failed to qualify for the Champions League last season, it was suggested that Lloris would look to find a club who were in Europe's elite competition and some of his quotes in the media suggested exactly that, but he has recently signed a new long-term deal with the club - much to the delight of the fans. Lloris is still on holiday after being on World Cup duty with France - a campaign that saw them knocked out by eventual winners Germany in the quarter finals - and his performances at the World Cup impressed enough to worry Spurs fans about potential suitors circling, but they can now look forward to seeing him turn out for the club for the foreseeable future - including in the Premier League opener at West Ham - safe in the knowledge that the club possess, arguably, the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.
