Spurs News: Club Face Legal Row Over Fazio Signing

Sevilla claim the player still belongs to them.

According to Estadio Deportivo and as reported on ESPN, Sevilla president Jose Castro is claiming that Argentinian defender Federico Fazio is still contracted to the La Liga club - in spite of the fact that Tottenham Hotspur unveiled him to the White Hart Lane crowd prior to last night's 3-0 victory against AEL Limassol in the Europa League qualifying round second leg. Spurs announced that the central defender had signed a four-year deal at White Hart Lane on Wednesday, prior to his unveiling, and despite Spurs reportedly paying the player's release clause, Castro says the money has not yet reached his La Liga side.
As of today Fazio is a Sevilla player, because he still has a contract with Sevilla which has not been rescinded. The money has been deposited, but not in the club's coffers. I do not know what he is doing in England being presented, that is what I cannot understand, but for that we have a legal team who will study what they must do. It is not a satisfactory or desired departure. Tottenham have paid his clause, but he only goes when his contract has been rescinded.
Fazio joined Sevilla in 2007 from Ferro Carril Oeste in his homeland, has won the Copa del Rey and the Europa League with them and was recently made the club's captain. He has two Argentina caps to his name and was part his nation's Under-20 World Cup-winning side in 2007 and he also won Olympic gold in 2008. He replaces Spurs' outgoing fellow central defender, Michael Dawson, who joined Hull City on Tuesday August the 26th. What do you think of this saga?
