Spurs News: Danny Rose Receives Shock England Call

The left back is in Roy Hodgson's latest squad alongside Andros Townsend.

Spurs left back Danny Rose has received a shock call-up to Roy Hodgson's latest England squad. Injuries to Manchester United's Luke Shaw and Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs have left an opening in the left back slot, with the only fit recognised player in that position being Leighton Baines following Ashley Cole's retirement. The call-up emphasises a dramatic change in fortunes for Rose, who was thought to be nothing more than a squad player at White Hart Lane this season after the Lilywhites signed Ben Davies from Swansea City. However, having signed a new five year contract at the club, he has started the season very well and is currently their first choice left back. He is joined in the national squad by his club team-mate Andros Townsend - a player who hasn't seen much action at all this season and who missed the World Cup through injury - as well as three fellow new additions to the squad in Arsenal's Calum Chambers, Newcastle United's Jack Colback and Aston Villa's Fabian Delph. England face Norway in a friendly at Wembley on September the 3rd, before heading to Switzerland to face their national side in a European Championship qualifier on September the 8th. Here is the full squad:

Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Southampton), Ben Foster (West Bromwich Albion), Joe Hart (Manchester City)

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Calum Chambers (Arsenal), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), John Stones (Everton)

Midfielders: Jack Colback (Newcastle United), Fabian Delph (Aston Villa), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), James Milner (Manchester City), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal) Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Andros Townsend (Tottenham Hotspur), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal)

Forwards: Rickie Lambert (Liverpool), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United)
