Spurs News: Franco Baldini Facing Dismissal?

Tottenham's Technical Director could face ultimate punishment for failure to land a striker this summer.

According to the Daily Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club's Technical Director Franco Baldini could be facing the sack from the club after he failed to bring in a new striker in the summer transfer window. The Italian, who has previously spent time working for Roma in Italy, Real Madrid in Spain and the English national team, only joined the White Hart Lane club in June of 2013 but his transfer work has been considered largely unsuccessful. He was responsible for most of the signings last summer, when Spurs infamously splashed out more than £100 million on new players following Gareth Bale's world record departure to Real Madrid, and very few of the seven players who made up that cost have made any real impression at the club. Now, at a time when Spurs need a new striker as much as anything else, he could face the ultimate punishment for failing to provide them with one. The Lilywhites were linked with a large number of potential new frontmen this summer, with names like Romelu Lukaku, Wilfried Bony, Javier Hernandez and Jay Rodriguez being banded around, but it is said to be the fact that Spurs lost out to rivals Arsenal in the hunt for Manchester United's England forward Danny Welbeck that has put the final nail in Baldini's coffin. Spurs are now left with just the inconsistent and moody Emmanuel Adebayor, an out-of-form Roberto Soldado and raw youngster Harry Kane, which isn't enough depth up top for a club with Champions League aspirations. What do you think of this? Should Baldini pay the ultimate price for his failure to land a new striker? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
