Spurs News: Veljkovic Speaks Out About Partizan

Tottenham's young defender says his club will face a tough test in his homeland.

Tottenham Hotspur's 18-year-old defender Milos Veljkovic has been speaking to the club's official website about tomorrow night's Europa League opposition Partizan Belgrade. Veljkovic hails from Serbia and knows the country and its football teams better than most - and he has described Partizan as a "big challenge" for his side to overcome. He only just played for Serbia's Under-21 side last week as they dramatically secured a place in the European Under-21 Championship play-offs with a 4-1 victory over Northern Ireland - they will now have to go up against holders Spain over two legs for a place in next summer€™s finals. Veljkovic chatted to Partizan players Nemanja Petrovic and Andrija Zivkovic whilst away on Under-21 duty and the centre back, who made his first appearance of the season as a substitute in the second leg of Spurs' Europa League play-off win against AEL Limassol, said all the talk was about the Group C opener between the two teams. He told Spurs' official website:
Nemanja and Andrija are very good young players and I know they are very important to Partizan. I was speaking to them last week and they are looking forward to this game. Partizan is a great club in Serbia, they have a strong support and have been champions on many occasions. Partizan and Red Star Belgrade are especially strong at home. They are always in the Champions League and that shows their quality. It will be a big challenge for us. I go to Serbia every summer for the holidays and I'm looking forward to this one.
Whether or not Veljkovic will get any game time against the club from his homeland remains to be seen, though it would be rather poignant if he was to make his first start for the club against them. How do you think Spurs' match against Partizan Belgrade will go? Should Milos Veljkovic be given a run-out against them? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
