Spurs Poll: Which Defensive Pairing Will Start Against Sunderland?

Who will form Spurs' central defence at the Stadium of Light?

Last season, Tottenham Hotspur conceded the most Premier League goals out of every team in the top eight. Spurs let in 51 goals in their 38 league matches, which was only four less than the 55 they scored - not the greatest goal difference for a team hunting a Champions League place. This season started somewhat more promising, as Spurs scored five without reply in their first two league games against West Ham United (1-0) and Queens Park Rangers (4-0) respectively. However, signs of their old leaky defence from last season reappeared when Liverpool went to White Hart Lane and beat the Lilywhites 3-0. As a result of their defensive problems, Spurs have signed defensive reinforcements in the likes of left back Ben Davies from Swansea City, centre back Federico Fazio from Sevilla and defensive midfielder Benjamin Stambouli from Montpellier, while Michael Dawson has been sold to Hull City. This has left the club with a centre back line-up of Belgian Jan Vertonghen, Frenchman Younes Kaboul, Romanian Vlad Chiriches and the aforementioned Argentinian Federico Fazio. But which pair will line-up together in the middle of Spurs' back-line against Sunderland on Saturday? New boss Mauricio Pochettino has favoured Vertonghen and Kaboul so far - particularly in the league - but will Fazio get his debut? Will Chiriches crash the party?
