Tottenham Hotspur could be set to hijack Liverpool’s move for the highly rated playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to the Daily Mail.
Liverpool were thought to be in pole position to bring Mkhitaryan to Anfield but now it appears Spurs have already held meetings with his current club Shakhtar Donetsk and the player’s representatives about coming to White Hart Lane.
However, Tottenham will face stiff from Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund if they hope to get the player in. Dortmund are thought to have already had one bid of £20 million rejected for the player and Liverpool are still very keen.
Mkhitarayan has emerged as one of the hottest properties in football this summer and Shakhtar aren’t going to let him go on the cheap, asking for at least £25 million. The interest of the three clubs could see the fee rise further as a bidding war looks set to ensue.
The Armenian appears to be only a small part of Tottenham’s summer transfer plans with a deal for Brazilian international Paulinho set to be completed following the Confederations Cup and David Villa still very much thought to be on their radar.
Mkhitarayan is clearly a very talented player and will have decisions to make over the summer regarding his future but Tottenham’s interest only continues to increase the intrigue in this saga.
Is White Hart Lane the right place for Mkhitaryan? Is he the right man for Spurs to splash the cash on? Thoughts welcome below.
