Spurs Transfer News: Leandro Damiao Deal Could Be Funded By Adebayor Sale?

leandro According to the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas is prepared to sell misfiring Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor in the summer in order to help to fund another move for Leandro Damiao. Internacional's Brazilian hitman has long been a target for Spurs and Villas-Boas has already seen a trio of bids turned down, but the Portuguese coach is expected to return with an improved offer in the next transfer window - an offer that would be supplemented by the sale of Adebayor. Following on from a successful loan spell last season - a spell in which the Togolese forward scored an impressive 18 goals - Spurs forked out £5 million to make his move from Manchester City permanent. But, since he signed permanently, his form has dipped dramatically, he has looked unfit, tired and disinterested and his scoring record of 3 goals in 22 appearances this season - just 2 of which were in the Premier League - simply isn't good enough. A late return from the African Cup of Nations didn't do him any favours either. Earlier in the season, a lot of the goalscoring responsibility was being covered by Jermain Defoe and, when the England man injured himself at the start of February against West Bromwich Albion, Adebayor was expected to step up to the mark. But it has been Gareth Bale - a natural left-winger - who has been the sole provider of goals for the last few Spurs matches and it appears Andre Villas-Boas has had enough. Both Leandro Damio and S.C. Braga striker Eder are being touted as transfer targets for the White Hart Lane outfit and Adebayor will be the man they replace if his form doesn't improve. A lump sum transfer fee, combined with the removal of Adebayor's near £100,000 per week wages (conditional fees considered), would go a long way to providing the money to sign both strikers.
