Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham To Bid For Christian Eriksen

London Evening Standard. Spurs have been monitoring the Denmark international for more than a year and are now ready to follow up on their desires after being dramatically snubbed by Willian, who has instead joined Chelsea from Anzhi Makhachkala. The Lilywhites were willing to pay £30 million for the Brazil international and despite the fact the winger had a medical at White Hart Lane, he instead opted for a move to Stamford Bridge. That has led to Tottenham renewing their interest in Eriksen, whose contract expires at the end of next season and is showing no signs that he is prepared to pen a renewal at the Amsterdam Arena. Ajax could be tempted to sell now as they would risk losing the 21-year-old for nothing next summer. Eriksen has also been on last season's Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund's radar in recent times but would prefer a move to the Premier League, while Dortmund have signed Henrik Mkhitaryan instead. The starlet, who has won three successive Eredivisie championships with Ajax, has been personally recommended to Spurs by his former teammate Jan Vertonghen. When Tottenham were negotiating with Ajax for the defender 12 months ago, they are believed to have made an enquiry into Eriksen's potential availability, and Vertonghen said of his former colleague:

€œTechnically, he€™s one of the best players I€™ve played with. He can use his right foot and his left foot equally well and he is always fit. €œSince he was 17 or 18 he has played so many games for Ajax and hardly ever been injured. When he gains a bit more physical strength, then I think he can play in any team. €œI don€™t want to speak for him but he is a good player, and I think a good player can play here.€
