Spurs Transfers: 5 Alternatives To David Villa

David villa Tottenham were left disappointed this week when one-time transfer target David Villa opted to sign for Atletico Madrid. Spurs and their London rivals Arsenal were interested in the former Barcelona star, and had tried to tempt the 31-year-old to England in order to bolster their respective forward lines. However, both have been left disappointed and will now have to look elsewhere this summer. Andre Villas-Boas' side narrowly missed out on a top 4 spot last season and the Portuguese manager is keen to bring in new recruits ahead of his planned assault on the coveted Champions League places next season. Already, the Lilywhites have signed Brazilian midfielder Paulinho, who has arrived from Corinthians for an undisclosed fee, and the capturing of the 24-year-old is a step in the right direction. But it is new strikers that Spurs badly need as they are at times overly-reliant on the goals of double PFA Player of the Year Award winner Gareth Bale. Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor are touching the wrong side of 30 and an injection of fresh blood is needed at White Hart Lane if Tottenham are to challenge the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal for a top 4 finish. David Villa could have helped them do that, but now the Spaniard is unavailable, here, we take a look at 5 alternatives.
