Tottenham Hotspur Football Club are currently enjoying a new lease of life under new boss Tim Sherwood. Following Andre Villas-Boas' dismissal from the club, the former Spurs midfielder was promoted from his position as the club's Technical Director to the position of manager and his arrival has coincided with a run of three wins and one draw in the Premier League, giving him ten points from a possible twelve so far - including Sunday's memorable victory at Manchester United. That said, Spurs' defensive record still hasn't been great. Following an impressive start to the season, two horror shows at Manchester City and at home to Liverpool have accompanied numerous other games in which Spurs have failed to keep a clean sheet. Indeed, including the League Cup match against West Ham, Spurs have conceded in four out of the five games in which Sherwood has been in charge (against West Ham, Southampton, West Brom and Manchester United) and this must improve if Spurs' aspirations for Champions League football are to come in to fruition. Jan Vertonghen and Younes Kaboul are currently injured and, while Michael Dawson and Vlad Chiriches performed admirably at Old Trafford, they are still both very prone to the occasional howler and lack the pace to truly flourish consistently in Tottenham's high defensive line. This means that, when Jan Vertonghen returns, it is essential that he isn't lumbered in the left back spot should Danny Rose become injured. With that in mind, Spurs should, at the very least, be looking to ensure that their defence is reinforced somewhat for the rest of this season.
