Spurs Transfers: Bale Must Leave Tottenham To Realise His Potential

Mirror Sport columnist Robbie Savage, who puts the prodigiously talented Welshman in a group of players including Robin van Persie, Luis Suarez and Radamel Falcao who are close to being the best in the world. He says Messi and Ronaldo are the top two, but the four others aren't far behind. And crucially, former Welsh team-mate Savage says Bale needs to move on to realise to full potential, even though Spurs are a "massive club with a huge fan-base are going to be contenders for a Champions League place this season." The trouble for Savage is that Bale is a potential Champions League winner, and unfortunately for Spurs, the pinnacle of their achievements at the minute would be to qualify. With teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in there, there's not a hope in hell of Tottenham winning the competition. Savage is right when he says that Bale's ambitions should be for more than winning a cup and qualifiying for the Champions League with Spurs - and neither of those are guaranteed this season. Bale has the potential and the ability even now to win the top prizes to match the accolades fans and media heap on him, and at the age of 23, he has the world ahead of him. But it is somewhere else in the world Bale should look to move if he wants to actually win things. Manchester United would be the only club in England Bale should even consider moving to - and they'd be one of the few capable of paying his likely fee - but really he should be looking for a move to one of the top two clubs in Spain, or Bayern Munich for his next career step. Italy is too unsuited to his style of play, though he might get some pleasure out of the comparative lack of speed in defences, but Spain would be perfect. He has the speed, the goals and the ability in the air to replicate Cristiano Ronaldo's impact in Madrid, and Real would be a force to be reckoned with with those two on either flank of the attack. The problem is likely the price - as Savage says, if Fernando Torres was worth £50million two years ago, what price Bale now? At 23, his value is already going to be massive, and with his skills and the potential for growth, Bale could be a world record breaking deal. Do you agree with Savage? Share your opinions below.
