Spurs Transfers: New First Team XI Based On Rumours

To highlight just how many players Spurs have been linked with, we can actually produce an entire new team!

Chris Ison/PA Wire/Press Association ImagesChris Ison/PA Wire/Press Association ImagesWhen transfer windows are approaching or, in particular, when they're in full swing, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club always seem to be the team linked with the most players. It's got to the stage now where it's actually ridiculous. If Spurs truly were looking to sign all of the players they were linked with, they'd generally be changing their entire squads every six or seven months. This current transfer window has seen Spurs linked with more players than ever - and that's saying something, given that Gareth Bale's sale last summer gave them a war chest that really could have seen them buy an entire new squad! To highlight just how many players Spurs have been linked with, we can actually produce an entire new team of players who, if the newspapers and press were to be believed, Spurs would be presenting to the world before the start of the coming season. Here is the completely new Spurs first team that the White Hart Lane club have been linked with this summer (let's just highlight that this is not a list of players we expect Spurs to sign, it is merely a novel way of highlighting the absurdity and scale of press rumours!)...

11. Michel Vorm - Swansea City (Goalkeeper)

John Walton/EMPICS SportJohn Walton/EMPICS SportWith rumours about Hugo Lloris' future rife in the press all summer, Spurs have been linked with a move for another goalkeeper and Swansea City's Michel Vorm was apparently top of their list of potential targets. The Frenchman was reported to have stated, after his country's exit from the World Cup, that he was unsure of his future and this - rather predictably - led to the press touting him for a departure from White Hart Lane. Lloris is undoubtedly deserving of Champions League football, and Spurs can't offer that this season, but he is only 27 - which is very young for a goalkeeper - and he has many playing years ahead of him and will know of Spurs' ambition. Michel Vorm has impressed in the Premier League and he went to the World Cup with the Netherlands, though he did not make an appearance. It is understandable that he would be linked with bigger clubs. However, it has been confirmed today that France captain Lloris has signed a new five year contract with Spurs, proving in no uncertain terms that the press got this one wrong.
