Spurs Transfers: Tottenham Back In For Toby Alderweireld

Atletico's forgotten Belgian is back on Tottenham's wanted list.

The Express are reporting that Spurs - amongst a number of clubs - have been alerted by the fact that an old target may be up for sale. Belgian international defender Toby Alderweireld was wanted by the White Hart Lane outfit during his time at Ajax and, now that he has fallen out of favour at current club Atletico Madrid, their interest may well be reignited. Alderweireld has struggled to adapt to La Liga after his £6 million move from the Netherlands last summer and he has been deemed surplus to the Spanish champions' requirements. Arsenal and Liverpool are also said to be keen on the gifted centre back - who can also play at right back - and the fact that both sides can offer Champions League football this season could be detrimental to Spurs - who play Cypriot side AEL Limassol in the Europa League play-off round, starting with the first leg in Cyprus on Thursday August the 21st. Alderweireld - who is an international colleague of Spurs stars Nacer Chadli, Mousa Dembele and Jan Vertonghen, the latter of whom partnered the Atletico man in defence in their time together at Ajax - could be an alternative option for Spurs to Villarreal's Mateo Mussachio, as that deal has hit a snag. He played in four out of Belgian's five World Cup matches this summer as they reached the quarter-finals of the competition. Would Spurs fans like to see Alderweireld at White Hart Lane?
