The Daily Mail are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur Football Club are set to activate the release clause of Sevilla's Argentinian defender Federico Fazio by bidding £8 million for the player. Spurs look to have missed out on Villarreal's Mateo Musacchio - a fellow countryman of Fazio's and of Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino's - due to complications with the player's third-party ownership and the Lilywhites now appear to have turned their attention to the twice capped centre back. Having started his career in the Argentine second division with Ferro Carril Oeste in 2005, Fazio moved to Spain in 2007 - where he first played in Sevilla's B-team before progressing to the first team soon after. The 27-year-old 6' 5" centre back has gone on to make 179 appearances for the club and Spurs have been told they must meet his release clause in order to have a chance of signing him. His size and composed playing style are seen as key reasons why he would adapt seamlessly to England and it is believed that Spurs are confident of completing a deal for the player within the next 24 hours. Some people may see the potential signing as underwhelming and as a poor alternative to Musacchio, but what do you think?
