Sunderland Transfer News: English Midfielder Is Top Of Di Canio's Shopping List

Sunderland Echo. Di Canio has been the busiest manager in the Premier League this summer bringing in nine new faces to the first team squad as he continues his summer 'revolution'. Speaking to the Echo, the Italian said, "What's most important to me is the need to get a key player in central midfield, someone who€™s English," "He needs to be English, with a physical presence, English, because he needs to know English football inside out, and also a player with very good quality, because we want to play attractive football which gets good results." A player that could be on the cards for the Black Cats is the Tottenham midfielder, Tom Huddlestone. The England international struggled to make a significant impact at Spurs last season with a cameo role at the club, and Sunderland have already made enquiries over the 26-year-old. However no agreement over the transfer of the former derby man has yet been reached. Another priority on Di Canio's mind is the gaps at left and right back in the Sunderland side. The Wearside club have played every preseason game without specialist full-backs with Jack Colback and Craig Gardner taking up the reins. It has been made no secret of this summer that the former Swindon boss wishes to deal with the left and right-back problems but his efforts have been so far fruitless. In the same interview with the Sunderland Echo, Di Canio confirmed, "The club is working on the two full-backs."
