Sunderland Transfer News: Napoli's Andrea Dossena Loaned To Black Cats

Dossena Sunderland have added another name to their huge list of incoming players tonight with the loan signing of Napoli's Andrea Dossena, reports Daily Mail. The Italian left-back does not appear to be part of Rafael Benitez' plans so has been given a potential route out of Italy by signing up to manager Paolo Di Canio's Sunderland project. Dossena - a former Liverpool player - joins fellow Anfield alumni and international compatriot Fabio Borini, who signed for Liverpool last year as the first arrival in the Rodgers revolution but has struggled to break back into the first team after struggling with injury. The Liverpool left-back represents Di Canio's 14th signing of the transfer and is seen as something of a coup for the Black Cats' firebrand manager - the 31-year-old was originally slated to sign for Serie A side Torino last week, before deciding on another attempt at the Premier League. The Italian signed for Liverpool in July 2008 from Udinese as the direct replacement for the Roma-bound John Arne Riise. However, he struggled to adapt to the style of the English game, resulting in his time at Anfield being marked by poor performances - something which Di Canio cannot afford at the Stadium of Light.
