The Big Kick Off: 5 Teams Who Impressed On The Opening Day

125 years This weekend saw the Football League kick off for its 125th year. There were goals a plenty and no shortage of drama, with upsets and big wins coming in from every division. QPR and Reading made a winning return to The Championship whilst League one big boys Preston and Wolves went head to head in a goalless draw at Deepdale. But what were the performances and results that really stood out this weekend? Who were the teams that made us stand up and take notice of them, first impressions mean everything and these teams certainly made a great one this weekend. Here€™s my choice for the top five performances from the opening weekend of the Football League€

5. Yeovil Town

Result: Millwall 0-1 Yeovil Towngary johnson Yeovil Town have once again defied the odds this weekend. The Somerset club picked up a surprise victory on their debut in the championship with a dramatic late winner against Millwall away from home. Long serving player Ed Upson fired in a late stunner to give the predicted strugglers the perfect start to the campaign. Yeovil will no doubt have a difficult season ahead of them but Gary Johnson€™s men have shown they have the metal to compete in this division and they certainly won€™t be going down without a fight.
