Tottenham Transfers: Spurs Now Favourites To Sign Winston Reid

Could Hammer stopper replace Kaboul?

Earlier speculation this afternoon suggested that Everton were trying to broker a deal to sign Winston Reid from West Ham in exchange for Sylvain Distin - a like for like swap for two players running to the end of their contracts - but now it looks like a new front-runner has emerged. According to SkyBet's odds - which usually link closely to official reports from sister company Sky Sports - Spurs have now emerged as the favourites to sign the player on a permanent deal before the deadline passes at 11pm. Reid has been instrumental in West Ham's good form this season and would have a long list of suitors this summer when he becomes a free agent, but the odds would suggest that there is faith that the player will move before then. That would certainly suit West Ham better if they're looking to bring in some money, but then if he helps them to finish in a European qualification spot, then any lost transfer fee could be over-written. And of course that could be enough to convince Reid to sign a new contract. Spurs' business so far has been mostly limited to shifting players out, with Aaron Lennon now on the verge of a move to Everton, though Delle Ali is close to signing from MK Dons. If they could add Winston Reid and get rid of either Younes Kbaoul or Vlad Chiriches then they would be in a stronger position after also signing Harry Kane up to a long-term deal.
