For newly promoted teams, the biggest challenge is always finding players who can consistently perform across the season. Fulham were the most obvious example of this last season. Despite bringing in players of undoubted quality like Andre Schurrle and Jean Michael Seri, the team was incredibly inconsistent and failed to hold their premier league place in disappointing fashion.

Aston Villa face a similar challenge and have spent big bringing in several notable names like Bournemouth's Tyrone Mings, but perhaps their smartest move was bringing in Burnley's Tom Heaton. Heaton spent 6 seasons with Burnley and played 188 games for them. Alongside Joe Hart and Nick Pope, Heaton has been a part of some of Burnely's most successful seasons ever, including their first season playing European football in the Europa League.

If you're looking for consistent Premier League workhorses, you can't find many like Heaton, so signing him is a significant coup for Villa. Considering many promoted teams struggle with defensive issues, Heaton will hope he can save his team some vital points and ensure they stay far away from the relegation zone.
