West Brom Transfer News: Baggies Sign Matej Vydra On Loan

Team Talk. The Czech will be well known to English fans having enjoyed a successful loan spell at Watford last season, where he scored 22 goals to fire the Championship side to the final of the play-offs, form which alerted West Brom boss Steve Clarke. Clarke, speaking on the club's official website, said he was delighted to have landed Vydra.

"I'm delighted to welcome Matej to the club, he had a really good year with Watford and we believe he's got the qualities to score goals at a higher level. Hopefully, he'll show that this year with us."
And the former Chelsea and Liverpool assistant manager also revealed he had been keeping a close eye on the 21-year-old before making a move to land him on loan.
"We had Matej watched throughout last season. As well as some excellent scouting reports, we had some really good feedback from within Watford about Matej as both a player and person. "I've said previously we're a bit light in the forward areas and Matej will increase competition for places. He's another good quality striker to add to the other three senior forwards we have here."
Vydra passed his medical this morning but will leave the Hawthorns straight away as he flies out for his country's friendly against Hungary, before returning to England in time for Saturday's Premier League opener against Southampton. He becomes the Baggie's third signing of the summer following the captures of Diego Luego and former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka, while the club are also welcoming back Goran Popov from his loan at Dynamo Kiev. Vydra began his playing career with Czech side FC Vysoina in 2008 before moving to Udinese two years later. Since then, he has been loaned out for two successive seasons, firstly to Club Brugge and then to Watford, where his career really took off. He netted 20 times in 27 appearances for the Championship club last season.
