West Ham Transfer News: Emmanuel Pogatetz Having Medical At Upton Park

Picture 6 Wolfsburg defender Emmanuel Pogatetz is undergoing a medical ahead of a move to West Ham, according to TeamTalk. Pogatetz (No.4 in the above image) previously spent five years in England with Middlesbrough before making his move to the Bundesliga in 2010 by joining Hannover. He left Hannover for Wolfsburg in a three-year deal last summer, but could now be set for a return to the Premier League. The Austrian international, who has also had stints at Bayer Leverkusen and Spartak Moscow, is reported to have arrived in England on Sunday night and will undergo a medical at Upton Park today before finalising his move. Pogatetz's arrival at West Ham will come as a huge boost for manager Sam Allardyce, who has been looking to strengthen his defence this month. He has also been linked with a move for Aston Villa's Stephen Warnock, with left-back a particular area of concern. The Hammers leaked five goals against Arsenal in their last Premier League encounter and have conceded 10 goals in four games. They are also without a win since New Year's Day when they beat Norwich 2-1. Pogatetz would become West Ham's fifth January signing, following the arrivals of Marouane Chamakh, Joe Cole, Sean Maguire and Wellington Paulista.
