World Athletics Championships: Robert Harting Grabs Discus Gold

robert harting German discus sensation Robert Harting grabbed yet another Discus gold medal to cement his place as one of the greatest discus throwers of all time. It's his third success in the World Championships, adding to his wins in 2007 and 2009 with a fantastic performance on Tuesday evening. The legendary German, who won last year's Olympic Games in London, threw 68.13m in the 2nd round to take the early lead, and bettered it with an impressive 69.11m in the 4th round to hold off a strong challenge from Polish star Piotr Malachowski. The Pole threw an impressive 67.21m to comfortably see off 2011 World Champion Gerd Kanter. The Estonian threw 65.19m for the bronze, despite fouling 4 of his 6 throws. Martin Wierig, the 26 year old team-mate of Harting who finished 5th in London, came desperately close to a medal today. He finishing with 65.02m, just an agonising 17cm short of the bronze medal in a fantastic performance. 24-year-old South African and reigning African Champion Victor Hogan threw 64.35m to claim 5th place, less than a metre short of Kanter's mark.
