Germany are one of the most successful teams in the history of the World Cup, and are considered favourites before just about every single tournament. The 2014 winners' pedigree is unquestionable, having also lifted the trophy in 1954, 1974, and 1990.

When drawn in a group with Mexico, Sweden and South Korea, the Germans would have already been thinking about who they'd get in the Last 16. Yet three games later, Germany managed to finish dead last after picking up just three points from Sweden - and even that needed a last minute miracle from Toni Kroos.

This marked the first time since 1938 the side were unable to progress from the group stage, and the first time since 1978 they didn't reach the Quarter Finals. Truly this was a Germany side that failed to live up to their incredibly high expectations.
