Best & Worst Kids Toys Of The 80s & 90s

He-Man And The Masters Of The UniverseHe Man ToysWhat?: He-Man is the arse kicking, pants wearing, blonde bob hairstyle sporting defender of Eternia. Along with his fellow Masters of the Universe the alter ego of Prince Adam must fight the evil hoards of Skeletor a blue, Panther riding villain with no face who is intent on learning the secrets hidden deep within the bowels of Castle Greyskull. Not unlike other heroes He-Man is very similar in appearance to his alter ego, in fact the only obvious difference between the 2 in the original toy franchise and subsequent animated series is He-Man wears less clothes (by which I mean just his underpants) than Prince Adam. This must make his friends and enemies even dumber than those who hang out with Superman. Who?: In 1976 Mattel turned down the opportunity to create the action figure lines based on the Star Wars movie franchise due to the $750,000 licencing fee they'd have to pay upfront. In hindsight the fee was nothing compared with the amount of money the toys ended up making and Mattel were left kicking themselves. In desperation the company released several knock off lines but none of them came close to the Star Wars figures until in the 1980's (as legend has it) Mattel modified a range of Conan the Barbarian action figures to make them kid friendly and thus the He-Man and The Masters of the Universe toy line was born. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GG-ICzOpBI4 Amusement Factor: He-Man provided me with hours and hours of entertainment throughout my childhood and is still held with great fondness in my heart. I almost can't wait to have children of my own so that I can drag them out of the attic (the toys not the kids) and play with them all once again almost 30 years later. The great thing about He-Man, She-Ra and other similar figures like Thundercats was the fact that they were accompanied by amazing TV shows that helped spark a child's imagination and allowed for some pretty wicked crossover adventures too. As I grew up my He-Man figures even teamed up with the A-Team at one point and as I became older they joined the ranks of the World Wrestling Federation to bulk out my roster of WWF action figures. Awesome Rating: He-Man and The Masters of the Universe are timeless classics that still have "... THE POWEEEEERRRRRRRRRR!"
