10 Fictional Places We'd All Love To Visit

The true measure of any fictional work is how well it immerses the audience in the world it creates.

The true measure of any fictional work is how well it immerses the audience in the world it creates. Why would we ever buy into a story if we couldn't even believe the location in which it took place? Some of the very best stories ever written are characterised less by their story and more by the characters and the world they inhabit, to the point that we often wish we could be transported there and experience it for ourselves. For a number of different reasons, be it visual wonder, the bizarre flora and fauna residing there, or the sheer outlandish other-worldliness, we wish there was a travel agent who could send us on a visit to these 10 places so we could explore it for real. Granted, due to the dangers involved with several of them, we'd probably want to make it a short stop, or better yet, have a guide to keep us alive, or even better, some sort of armoured vehicle. As usual, feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments!

10. Pandora (Avatar)

Pandora is the moon from James Cameron's visually stunning epic Avatar, a location so unbelievably realised that many viewers even reported withdrawal symptoms and depression due to the fact that they would never be able to visit the place for real. A serene feast of scenery, Pandora also boasts an array of exotic wildlife, including horse-like animals, and the famous flying banshees, which the locals use for transport. Then there's the deadly Thanator, a giant hulking beast, one which you'd best steer clear of. The indigenous locals, the Na'vi, are a seemingly primal yet deeply honourable tribal community, and will do just about anything to protect their settlement's ecosystem, an interconnected series of electrochemical plant roots referred to as Ewya, essentially forming their equivalent of a God. As we're all aware, Pandora also contains rich deposits of the precious yet ludicrously-named mineral unobtanium, and so the place is a target for attacks from those pesky, greedy Earthlings looking to steal it all at any cost.
