10 Best Animated Fantasy TV Shows Of All Time

9. Gargoyles

Disney Television Animation

The best thing about the fantasy genre is anything is possible. As such, stories don’t always have to revolve around humans. Another classic from the old days, Gargoyles follows the journey of a clan of, you guessed it, gargoyles, as they survive a horrific tragedy only to become imprisoned in a timeless curse.

The story begins with Goliath and his clan getting betrayed by their human allies, because that’s just what humans do. Most perish in the ensuing slaughter. Those who lived, were placed under a curse that turned them into stone permanently.

But, curses are meant to be broken. Over a millennium later, scheming billionaire David Xanatos comes across the gargoyles’ old castle and decides to add it to list of expensive possessions. He has the castle reconstructed atop a skyscraper. But unbeknownst to him, raising the inanimate statues above the clouds was the exact condition for ending the curse.

However freedom from their prison did not mean the end of their struggles, as Goliath and the others must quickly realize the threat Xanatos and his plans against the modern world, while at the same time doing their best to adjust to it.

The gargoyles once more take up their role as protectors and even find help in the form of brave police officer Elisa Maza. The story that follows is a brilliant mix of emotion, action and sacrifice, as we are all left desperate to see the Gargoyles get their due.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
