10 Best Beards In The Walking Dead

Where are all of the bearded walkers?

Our society currently regards men who have facial hair as being fashionable; they're trendy but they're also perceived as more masculine than men who cannot grow a beard. Now, it seems a bit unfair on the men who are simply unable to grow a beard, and in the world of The Walking Dead, everyone's sympathies lie with Glenn. It just doesn't seem to be happening. We have seen Rick's beard grow alongside his violent and sometimes inhumane tendencies towards others, and as the zombie apocalypse continues, so does the length of his beard. Of course, this was until he shaved it off in season 5 and Glenn still couldn't even sport... well, anything. The major male characters of the show all seem to be sporting a lot of facial hair, but is it to symbolise that they are the hunters of the group? Does their beard define them as being the most dependable and therefore the most masculine by comparison? Does the biggest beard mean that they're the Alpha? As the show progresses, the characters are changing, whether they are reacting from grief, despair or from numbness to this new world, their beards are symbolising this change at the same time. Whatever the psychological or the symbolic reasons are behind half of the male cast having a beard, we're taking a look at who is wearing them best. It might be the zombie apocalypse but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be well groomed...

10. Gabriel

Father Gabriel: everyone's least favourite character and most depressing beard of the show. It's about time that both Father Gabriel and his facial hair stood up to the rest of the group, grew a backbone and started acting like they want to live a little. His facial hair is far too neat and tidy, and considering that he's living in a current zombie apocalypse, he should probably spend more time training and less time trimming. From his clean and tidy exterior, it is easy to assume that the Priest isn't a fan of getting his hands dirty and is definitely more of an indoor type.
