10 Best TV Shows Of Fall 2014

9. Outlander (Starz, Saturdays 9/8c)

Outlander has technically been on television since late August, but we still think it deserves to be included on our list. Based on the immensely popular historical romance by Diana Gabaldon, Outlander is the story of a World War II nurse who finds herself suddenly transported back to 18th century Scotland. It's lush and beautifully filmed, representing both the harsh world of post-war Britain and the dreamy mysticism of the Scottish Highlands of yore equally well. It's already established quite a following, and puts the Starz network on the map when it comes to quality cable programming. Stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan have a scorching chemistry that creates sexual tension so thick you can cut it with a knife, and audiences are definitely responding. We might go so far as to say that Heughan's Jamie Fraser could take Mr Darcy's place in the hearts of many young women with a yen for costume dramas.
