We live in a world of TV right now, which is not quite so restricted as it used to be, and a great example of this is the popularity of animated shows. Whilst cartoons used to be simply seen as children's media, there is now a full understanding that you can watch it no matter your age.

In the entire existence of TV cartoons, there have been a plethora of great products specifically designed for adults or kids, and many of them have surprisingly deep worlds packed full of character. Part of what helps to make these settings come alive are the background characters who you can see consistently throughout the show.

Details like recurring extras, or even one-time background roles can help a cartoon to carve out its identity. By giving the fans something to look out for, or a recurring joke to take them by surprise, the viewers can be consistently engaged waiting for the appearance of these additions.

As a precursor, some shows appear more than once on this list, as they've managed to succeed in generating great extras multiple times.

10. South Park - Hidden Aliens

South Park is a cartoon series like no other, and a big part of that comes down to the fact that its primary demographic is centred towards adult viewers. Its toxic behaviour and dark humour make it a show full of edgy content that adults love and younger viewers are fascinated by, whenever they can sneak a peek.

One great hidden aspect of the show that helps to make it fun is the employment of hidden alien characters. These humanoid extra-terrestrials were introduced in the very first episode, and as the series progresses, you can continuously catch them if you keep a good eye out.

It's a great hidden detail of the show and gives fans a rewarding experience if they are re-watching and want to look out for further information that they may have missed when viewing it before.

It is easy to love these goofy aliens as they often employ unorthodox methods to hide, and it always feel rewarding when you catch a glimpse of one.

These tall grey creatures have become a synonymous part of South Park and are easily identifiable with the show.
