10. Modern Family
There is no doubt that one of the best comedies on our screens right now is the hilarious Modern Family, which centres on three branches of one family. Played by Married...with Children star, Ed O'Neill, Jay Pritchett takes centre stage as head of the family. Jay lives with his second wife, Gloria, (Sofia Vergara) who hails from Colombia and her son, Manny, a teenager who is very mature for his age and prefers drinking espressos and wearing suits rather than socialising with his peers. Jay's two now grown-up children, Claire and Mitchell also both have their own families, causing numerous comical situations, always including a whole lot of sarcasm. At the heart of the show is the message that however unconventional your family may be, you are still family and sticking together is of the utmost importance even during the hard times such as whether your gay son and his husband should be adopting a Vietnamese child or you are tiring of your son-in-law's numerous "motivational quotations" - "When life gives you lemonade, make lemons and life will be all like woah." To date, the show has won numerous awards winning the prestigious SAG award in 2010 and has been nominated for Emmys several times. Modern Family now boasts four seasons and if its current success is anything to go by, it will continue for a good few more yet.
