10 Failed TV Series Pilots You Need To Watch

8. Korgoth Of Barbaria

Adult Swim are known for producing a number of original animated TV series that are just 'out there' in terms of quirkiness and sheer weird hilarity. Korgoth of Barbaria is definitely up there in terms of encompassing Adult Swim's signature offbeat humor wrapped in an original and intriguing premise. Set in a comically anachronistic post-apocalyptic future where magic, sorcery, and medieval technology reign supreme, Korgoth of Barbaria is an affectionate parody of Conan the Barbarian and the whole sword and sorcery genre. The pilot sees Korgoth, a savage Conan-esque barbarian who looks like he picked a fight with a gang of ugly sticks and lost pretty badly, being extorted into stealing some McGuffin from a wizard whose powers are brought to life by chewing gum. Korgoth's adventure takes him through a world awash with excessive animated bloodshed, crude but funny jokes, excessive alcohol consumption, and just a touch of sex. Damn, that description alone makes Korgoth of Barbaria sound like the greatest thing ever. Unfortunately, despite managing to build up a dedicated fanbase and the pilot being very well received both critically and commercially upon airing, Korgoth of Barbaria was quietly dropped due to 'high production costs'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoxMiZxN-F0

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
